    General Stuff

A few general things I think are worth knowing about.

Sex with children in the Philippines

I’ve been travelling to the Phils for quite a few years now and have never encountered anything like that at all. Of course at home there are the fiddled reports by so called “journalists” working for the tabloid press or such TV channels. This means three things – the gullibility and ignorance of audience and readers, the lack of trust in others and the own dirty fantasies. Of course there is the lack of news during the “dead” summer season meaning the lack of readers/audience. In such cases the press will be looking for some sensation so will have a go at “fun tourists”. Everyone who has been to the Phils before knows that things like that don’t simply happen that easily there.

    Tips:

In restaurants tips are about 5 – 10% of the amount on the bill. In bars I tip about 10 – 30 Peso depending on the bill and the friendliness of the service. Never forget, a cleaning woman earns about 100 Peso per day, compare this with the earnings of the bar girls – For a good job after a short time they get a 100 tip, after a decent long time with a morning shag 200 – 500 (if it was really good).

I like to give the hotel room maid a tip, I leave about 50 Peso a day on the pillow; she’ll spoil me for this (extra towel etc.).

For a longer taxi journey (if the driver is nice) I’ll give 100 Peso, Trikers don’t get fuck all, it’s not normal to give them a tip. Apart from that they rip us off enough anyway.

    Seasonal differences:

The rainy season (when summer at home) is not ideal for visiting the beautiful beaches, Boracay, for example. The weather is no problem for Angeles though; bars and beds are under a roof   that’s why we’re there. The occasional wet feet (wear sandals) can get on one’s nerves but isn’t that bad.

There isn’t really a main season in Angeles. Nevertheless, sometimes it is a bit difficult to get a decent room, especially during the weekend when expats from the surrounding area are there. It’s better to arrive on a Sunday ( also because of the better traffic situation in Manila). Book a room online or per email (without pre-payment). There may be difficulties on public holidays too, especially at Easter (“Holy Week”) and during the Chinese New Year’s Festival (early in the year with changing dates – better to Google). Finally, if you’re visiting the place at Christmas it’s better to book in advance as well.

    Shopping:

Can’t say all that much about this. Recently bought loads of T-shirts (from street trader) because the Phil T-shirts fit me a lot better than those from Thailand. Apart from that it’s not really worth shopping on the Phils.

You can get Kamagra or some sort of Sildenafil pills for 100 on the street after haggling (you will be approached all the time) for 4 X 100mg pills (it´s better to buy a few blisters, easier to haggle). Don’t pay more! In the meantime it’s mainly Cialis or Tadalafil pills. Example – on the street they will start haggling at 2500 – 3000 for a tin of 10 “100er Cialis”. He’ll tell you it’s a good price without blushing. No wonder, it really is a good price, for him. They find some stupid twat who pays that price just about every day. Tell him you’ll only pay 1000, but for FOUR tins. He’ll swallow but if you say “take it or leave it,” and turn round without any further discussion, he’ll agree. If not, look for the next person selling – You’ll find one on ever, and I mean ever corner selling such stuff.

    Pharmacy:

Everything is unbelievably cheap in Phil chemists, prescription free too. Caution, forget about smuggling medicines, the customs at home don’t understand any fun in this aspect either – this also applies to potency pills, but nobody has anything against you using them on location in the Phils. If you have to buy meds at home on a regular basis it’s best to get in touch with the customs beforehand and make inquiries to how much you are allowed to bring back with you. Take a doctor’s prescription with you (for the customs).

Terms: Here what a few terms mean, one’s that may crop up now and again.

    Butterfly:

Is the term given to someone who quickly changes his holiday partner and often as if moving from blossom to blossom… of course the girls would like one “love clown”, this way it’s simpler to earn money for a number of days or even weeks. In addition to this there may be the opportunity of receiving regular payments from abroad afterwards. However, they have no problem with hearing the truth, the opposite really, it makes things less false and increases the fun factor, nobody has to adjust themselves.

    Love clown:

The opposite to a butterfly. Likes to see things through rose-tinted spectacles and believes every word the girl tells him. Everything works out well because the girl will tell him exactly what he wants to hear. These men tend to send money from home and end up financing the girl’s true boyfriend’s expensive parties; quite often they are trike drivers. Most “love clowns” think – mine is different to the others.

Bar fine / EWR (Early Work Release):

About half of it is compensation for the bar if a girl is released meaning she won’t be available for the rest of the day; the girls get the other half. With this everything has been paid for meaning that the girl will have no further cash demands.

    Short time:

Depending on the agreement one or a number of quickies. Can take up to three hours but one hour is normal (although nobody really looks at the watch).

    Long time:

The girl stayed until the next day, the earliest she’s allowed to leave is after the morning shag (come to agreement beforehand).

    Super long time:

You keep the girl for a number of days or even for the duration of your holiday. You will still have to pay the daily bar fine and this cannot be haggled down.

    Freelancer:

Freelance girls, who for some reason or other don’t work in bars and are on offer on the open market. I defiantly recommend newbies in Angeles to keep their fingers off them – for safety reasons (see “Safety”).

    Lady drink:

It’s only possible to buy a girl one of these in a bar. Lady drinks cost more than normal drinks, the bar and the girl share the money 2:1. Quite often they are only a very small glass of some drink or other. The purpose of lady drinks isn’t really to let the girl have a drink; it’s to pay their “wage” for spending time with us. However, if their first question is whether we’ll buy them a lady drink we leave them standing there with it being a bad custom and a rip-off; don’t expect such girls to oblige with anything you would like.

    Double lady drink:

Quite often (without asking) a double LD (instead of a “regular LD”) is served and put on the bill – quite often a beer or Gatorade. Complain immediately if this happens and it’s also better to move to another bar. On the other hand, in the meantime this has (unfortunately) become quite a normal thing to do. If you chat with a girl in a bar for a longer period of time (or grope around) you could buy her an SMB (San Miguel Light, the beer the girls like). You will both have more from this than from two small LDs – because it lasts her longer and it will make her looser than a couple of tiny glasses of orange juice 😉

    Towel screw:

If when back in the hotel the girl locks herself in the bathroom, showers and come out wrapped from top to bottom in a towel then you will have grabbed yourself a “dead bird”, a shy girl or one with a number of kids who has a few problems with her figure (stomach, breasts); or maybe the whole lot.

    Mamasan/Papasan:

Managers in a bar employed with a salary. They keep the chicks together, something not as simple as it seems.

    GFS/GFE:

Girl Friend Sex – Girl Friend Experience. When having sex the girl give you the feeling that she’s your girlfriend (or even better). That’s what we’re looking for…

    Happy hour:

A lot of bars reduce the price of drinks at certain times of the day; mainly for beer and other local drinks (rum and coke).

    General tips:

Bring condoms with you from home, there is more faith in them and they fit better – On average Asians are built a little smaller.

Viagra or clones such as Kamagra (have the same active substance – Sildenafil) can be purchased cheap on the streets of Angeles. Don’t buy the original, it’s expensive in comparison and isn’t any better – apart from that there are also fakes on offer (have no effect). There is also Apcalis (Tadalafil). Once again for your own safety – don’t bring them back to Europe, smuggling meds is a crime (see above).

Take your mobile with you to Angeles. The reason for this: on the one hand SIM cards for mobiles and pay as you go cards for the internet can be purchased all over the place – phone calls are cheap. On the other hand one can’t really imagine being without a mobile nowadays. As we already know, they are also very useful for contacting friends for a spontaneous get-together. Apart from that about 99% of the girls have one and if you’re horny you will be able to make a quick call and have a “nurse” come and see to you. After a few days you will have a few numbers of talented personnel who you may want to fall back on.

At first the Phil language takes a bit of getting used to, but it’s not as extreme as in Thailand. Some speak only a little or no English at all, which, however, is an exception with the official language actually being English. Of course most of the locals speak their own language or dialect, Tagalog – sounds a little like Spanish – many of them speak very good English.

Electricity in hotels etc. is compatible with ours. It’s seldom that you will need an adaptor but if you do you will be able to get one down at the reception.

There are reasonably priced short time hotels through the town area, simply ask the girls if you need one.

The time difference to Europe is plus six or seven hours (summer time / winter time).

I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND getting travel health insurance. Such insurances don’t cost that much – take a look on the internet.

Never buy anything from begging kids on the street who are trying to sell you something, they have been forced to do this; for example they will try to sell you chewing gum or flowers. They have nothing from the money, those who cash in laze about all day. If you like, buy them something to eat, they’re always hungry.

A good idea if you have any leftovers after a meal is to get a doggy bag and take them with you (if it’s worth it); give them to the kids on the street. Don’t be afraid to do this, the girls often take leftovers with them.

Beggars work in groups, quite often they are forced women with kids (even babies) who they have “borrowed”. All this is organised and must be looked at sceptically, don’t give them anything. The locals don’t like these non-resident beggars from other places. They are brought to drop-off points and picked up again in the evening. On the other hand there are also genuine poor people, quite often older people sitting on the street with their hand held out. It’s ok to give these a coin now and again, or even 20 Peso. The boundary between these extremes cannot always be recognised.

Street traders will often approach you (“Kamagra, sir? T-shirts?”). A quick “no thanks” will do the trick to get rid of them. If you do happen to purchase anything then don’t forget to haggle. Some of the prices they ask are extortionate. One wanted to sell me a Kamagra for 1400, the street price is 100.

The public is Angeles is mixed – all different ages from lots of different countries.

It’s difficult or sometimes not even possible to get vibrators, dildos and other “toys” in the Phils. Officially it’s forbidden to bring such things into the country but white people are never controlled in Manila. I always take “toys” with me, outfits for the girls too, something for the eye!

So what do I take with me on holiday! In general you can get just about everything. You don’t have to worry if you have forgotten your toiletry bag. Take lightweight clothing with you, a few pairs of shorts for the daytime, long trousers for the evenings, maybe a few shirts too. With hotel laundry services being pretty quick (you usually get your stuff back the same day) you don’t really need to take that much with you. If you take a few chargeable electric appliances with you then you should also drag a multi-socket along with you. I have a multi with five sockets and an extension cable; practical because some hotel rooms only have one or a couple of sockets.

Visa: an extension from 30 to 59 days costs 3000 Peso. If you can’t be bothered to take care of this yourself there are a number of travel agents in Angeles who will sort things out for you for a few hundred Peso fee. However, it’s supposed to be quite simple to get a visa extension yourself (the immigration office is now in the Marquee shopping centre (map), by going there yourself you can save quite a bit. I think the best thing for those wanting to stay for longer than 30 days is to get things done at your own embassy in the Phils. I know it currently costs 27 Euros for the German one.
