  • Night – Time in Vung Tau

When talking about nightlife, one does not have to do without anything at all… Loads of bars and karaoke dumps are spread about all over the town. There is a billiard place called “Red Parrot” just across the road from the Rex Hotel. Many bars are situated around the Palace Hotel, as I said, here a few photos of nighttime excursions. The Alcohol just flows (it’s amazing how much the girls there can hack, they nearly managed to drink me under the table). The dolls dance and the places shut down for the night at two in the morning. Then one makes ones way to the hotel. Due to the fact that prostitution is illegal in Vietnam, it (hahaha), it is not that easy to get ones beauty of the night into the hotel, have mentioned this before.

The police turned up once late at night, or at least they set up a sort of control outside, my hen got dressed quickly, I got the impression that she didn’t want to be seen in the smart evening dress she had been wearing beforehand… I was told to keep quiet (music to be switched off), someone phoned for a taxi, jumped in, and off and away, no damage done.

Expats meet in the “Red Parrot” (near the Rex Hotel), one gets to know the lads who live out here, the boss is also a westerner, a nice bloke. I really got going in one of the other bars: A bottle of black label, food from the restaurant just around the corner for the girls, the karaoke machine ran hot. Took a girl with me, the 18-dollar trick at the reception, the whole programme in my room. The girl that had served us the whole evening took me aside and said that I should not forget to give the girl a bit of money in the morning, she needed it to live on, or some words similar. “Of course” I said, “I know how things work!” I preferred not to ask how much was expected for the services.

I pressed 50 US dollars into her hand in the morning, astonished; she asked me how much that would be in Dong… Of course, I would have been able to giver her East German Marks or Lira, she was so clueless. I picked her up again that evening, but not before having the same party as the evening before with her down the karaoke bar. This time it was two bottles of black… Took the rest with us… The bill still wasn’t too high, was fair. The second evening it was just under 100 US dollars, not bad for all those drinks, the food, the karakoe and the hours of fun that I had.
